Let the Sun Shine In

Open concept brings the outdoors in. GOLD award winner

The homeowners planned to renovate the rather dated kitchen from the moment they took possession of their home three years ago. The wall between the kitchen and the dining area was removed, the raised panel maple cabinetry installed in one line along the exterior wall and an island built between the two areas.

The island is long and narrow in shape, in order to provide a large amount of countertop area without significantly impacting the flow of traffic between the two rooms. The kitchen is tastefully appointed with 1 ¼” tan brown granite countertops on all surfaces and features an undermount sink. Hardwood floors were match to the dining room, lighting is provided by 10 pot lights and the new space was freshly painted.

This project also included the demolition of an existing 3-season sunroom and the building of a new 15’ x 20’ 4-season sunroom with 12 windows for lots of natural light. Ductwork was extended from the main home to the new sunroom, providing heating and cooling for all seasons, and the homeowners now have a useable crawlspace under the sunroom for additional storage.
